A View of Karakakooa, in Owhyhee, 1779
From Captain Cook’s logbook: “At day-break on the 16th of January 1779, seeing the appearance of a bay, I sent Mr. Blight with a boat from each ship to examine it. Canoes now began to arrive from all parts; so that before ten o’clock there were not fewer than a thousand about the two ships. We had the most satisfying proof of their friendly intentions”.
