A Canoe of the Sandwich Islands, the Rowers Masked, 1779
A ceremonial canoe containing priest in Kealakekua Bay. The purpose of this ritual or its relation to the presence of Captain Cook in the bay was unknown to the British at that time. The meeting was warm and friendly.
